Who was Joseph Pilates

Joseph Pilates is German physical therapist, who gave his name to the popular sport branch. He was born in 1883 in Germany and was a sick boy at his early childhood. In order to improve his health his father kept taking him to different sport branches. He especially got a lot of gymnastics and wrestling classes.

Soon Joseph Pilates understood the main problem in the industrial world. People left the physical works due to the industrialisation at the end of 19th century. The nature of people was not suitable for the office work. Therefore everybody got the neck pains and structure problems. Long working hours in the offices, sitting on the work desks made people sick and vulnerable.

Joseph Pilates Methods

Joseph Pilates started to invent physical therapy methods for daily use. At the beginning he offered physical exercises without the equipment. However once the First World War started, a lot of injured soldiers came back and they needed a recovery process after the medical treatments. He made some primitive equipment for these injured soldiers and these equipment became popular in a short time. Soon he developed his inventions and made the pilates reformer equipment. The ides was using the body’s own power to improve the strength and core balance.

Today in every country we can see pilates equipment and tools, used by wide range of population. These pilates equipment designs based on Joseph Pilates’ early concepts and reflex todays needs. Today there are dozens of pilates equipment with several options and variations.
